  • WHY ARE POWER-COATED METAL PLANTERS SO POPULAR?
Urban Pot prefers powder-coated planters for several reasons: Durability: Powder coating offers excellent protection against corrosion, rust, and scratches, extending the life of planters. This makes them ideal for outdoor use, where they are exposed to the elements and humidity. Aesthetics: Powder-coated planters offer a smooth, uniform finish, available in a wide range of colors and finishes. This enables Urban Pot to offer modern, elegant designs that blend perfectly into a variety of environments. Ease of maintenance: Powder coating is easy to clean and maintain, enabling planters to stay looking like new for longer with minimal upkeep. Environmentally friendly: The powder coating processes used by Urban Pot are environmentally friendly, with reduced emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and minimal waste production. In short, powder-coated planters offer the perfect combination of durability, aesthetics, and ease of maintenance, making them a preferred choice for Urban Pot in the creation of its high-end products.
  • WHAT METAL DO YOU MAKE YOUR CUSTOM PLANTERS?
We make our planters from a variety of different sheets, but we generally use marine-grade aluminum. Our choice is usually a 1/8" thick 5052 aluminum alloy. Depending on the application, we can recommend greater thicknesses. We also manufacture stainless steel (Inox), Corten steel (weathering steel), and galvanized pans in various thicknesses. All our products are incredibly strong, thanks to our "secret" manufacturing techniques that enable us to offer beautiful, robust products at competitive prices.
  • FOR CUSTOM PLANTERS, WHAT ARE THE CHOICES OF PAINT?
For custom-made planters, we use the process of electrostatic painting or baked paint (powder coat). Powder coating is an environmentally friendly coating process that creates zero VOCs and creates a durable, UV and impact resistant finish. The choice is almost limitless. You can choose any color in the chart RAL
  • HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR CORTEN STEEL TO REACH ITS FINAL PATINA ?
Corten generally takes the following times to develop its patina: The patina layer begins to form in less than 6 months in contact with air and water. The color of Corten steel stabilizes after 12 to 18 months. After this period, the patina continues to evolve more slowly, adopting deeper, almost black tones of brown over the years. Some sources indicate that the process of oxidation and formation of the protective patina can take up to 2 years. So, in summary, Corten steel generally takes between 6 months and 2 years to fully develop its characteristic patina, which then continues to evolve more slowly over time.
  • WHY CHOOSE URBAN POT OVER A NON-SPECIALIZED MANUFACTURER?
Urban Pot's aluminum planters differ from using a local manufacturer in several ways: Specialization: We focus solely on the manufacturing of planters, which allows us to specialize and perfect our know-how in this area. Experience of more than 10 years: With more than a decade of experience, we have acquired solid know-how in the design and manufacture of high-quality aluminum planters. Design Capabilities: We have a team of talented engineers who can design planters with appropriate reinforcement to prevent them from warping or sagging under the weight of the infill. Our proven project process ensures premium quality and consistency on every planter. Fixed deadlines: We strictly adhere to the agreed deadlines and complete the project as promised. Unlike local manufacturers who can often take weeks or even months longer than expected to complete the project. Fixed Prices: Unlike local manufacturers who may underestimate the time and costs involved, we offer fixed and transparent prices. We avoid unpleasant surprises during the project, thus guaranteeing peace of mind to our clients. Stability and Warranty: We are here to stay, and we offer a warranty on all our products. Unlike local manufacturers who may disappear or not be able to honor their warranty, we ensure the longevity of our products and our commitment to our customers. In summary, choosing Aluminum Planters from Urban Pot guarantees superior quality, fixed lead times, transparent pricing and peace of mind thanks to our experience, expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • IS IT REQUIRED TO ANCHOR A METAL PLANTER TO THE GROUND?
No, you don't have to anchor a metal planter to the ground. Here are the main points to bear in mind: - Raised planters, generally between 90 and 100 cm high, don't need to be anchored to the ground. Their height makes them more stable and easier for the gardener to access. - Planters can be installed on a variety of surfaces: balconies, terraces, building roofs, etc. The key is to ensure adequate drainage. - Some metal planters can be fitted with castors for easy movement. In this case, they don't need to be anchored to the ground. - Anchoring to the ground is generally only necessary for large planters or those exposed to strong winds, to prevent them from toppling over. But it's not always necessary. So, to sum up, ground anchoring is not essential for metal planters, except in certain special cases. Height, stability and drainage are more important factors to consider when installing.
  • WHAT BUDGET SHOULD YOU ALLOW FOR A METAL PLANTER?
The budget for a metal planter depends on several factors, including size, material and design. Quantity will also have an impact. The larger the order, the lower the unit price.
  • WHAT MAINTENANCE IS NEEDED FOR PLANTERS?
Urban Pot planters are maintenance free from a physical or mechanical perspective, but in terms of daily use we recommend the following 'best practice' guidelines: Aluminum is rust resistant and extremely durable. Both salt and fertilizers are very corrosive and will corrode most metals, including aluminum and stainless steel. The powder coating provides a protective layer to prevent paint chipping as much as possible. If the coating does peel, rest assured that the corrosion will not slip under the paint like it does with steel. Cold weather won't harm aluminum planters, but when water freezes, it expands by about 10%. Freezing water will shatter a mountain and your planter if filled with water before or during winter. The best way to prevent this from happening is to: Make sure the planter is filled with soil to about 1” from the top before winter sets in. Always use topsoil in planters as it retains less moisture than potting soil. Sometimes it is possible to cover planters during the winter months. It probably won't be necessary, but it can't hurt.
  • HOW TO FILL A TALL PLANTER?
Here are a few tips for filling a tall planter: 1. Choose the right substrate Use a mixture of potting soil and compost to provide the plants with the nutrients they need. Avoid soils that are too heavy and may compact over time. If necessary, add sand or perlite to improve drainage. 2. Prepare the planter Make sure the planter has drainage holes at the bottom to prevent water stagnation. Place a layer of gravel or clay balls at the bottom to facilitate drainage. 3. Filling the planter Start with a layer of substrate at the bottom, then tamp lightly. Gradually add the rest of the potting soil and compost mixture to the top. Leave a space of about 5 cm below the edge to facilitate watering. 4. Plant your plants Choose plants suited to the size of your planter and its exposure. Space them correctly to give them room to grow. Water thoroughly after planting. By following these steps, you'll have a tall, well-drained planter filled with a nutritious substrate, ideal for growing your favorite plants!
  • HOW TO KEEP A PLANTER HEALTHY ?
Here are a few ways to keep a planter moist: 1. Use a suitable substrate : - Mix potting soil and compost to provide the necessary nutrients . - Add sand or perlite to improve drainage. 2. Prepare the planter : - Place a layer of gravel or clay balls at the bottom to facilitate drainage . - Insulate the sides with metal tubs to protect the soil. 3. Use watering techniques : - Water deeply to encourage rooting. - Install a drip irrigation system to supply water regularly. 4. Protect the surface: - Mulch the soil with straw, bark or dead leaves to limit evaporation. By combining these different methods, it's possible to maintain a good level of humidity in a window box and keep plants healthy, even in hot weather.
  • WHAT TO USE AT THE BOTTOM OF PLANTERS TO ENSURE GOOD DRAINAGE?
To ensure good drainage in planters, we recommend placing a layer of draining material at the bottom of the container, such as : - Expanded clay balls - Wood shavings - Gravel or small pebbles This drainage layer should represent around 20% of the total volume of the mixture. It prevents water from stagnating at the bottom of the pot and suffocating plant roots. Some plants, such as cacti and succulents, need an even more draining substrate. In this case, medium-grain river sand can be added to the potting mix. It's also important to ensure that the container has sufficient drainage holes at the bottom, otherwise, water won't run off properly.
  • WHERE TO PLACE THE PLANTERS?
To optimize growing conditions in a planter, we recommend placing it in a sunny spot. Plants need light to thrive. It's also important to ensure that the planter is placed where it can benefit from good drainage. This could be on a balcony, terrace or even a concrete slab, provided that drainage holes are drilled at the bottom. The height of the planter is also important. A raised planter, between 90 and 100 cm high, facilitates access and the gardener's work. This eliminates the need to bend down and can be beneficial for people with back problems. Finally, the planter can be installed anywhere, on a balcony, terrace or even on the roof of a building. The key is to ensure that the conditions of drainage, sunlight, and accessibility are right for good plant growth.
  • WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLANTER SIZE?
Here are the main criteria for choosing the right planter size: 1. Plant size and habit: - Small plants (strawberries, lettuces, herbs) require a planter about 10 inches in diameter (2.5 to 3 gallons). - Medium-sized plants (cabbages, carrots, peas) require a 14-inch diameter planter (6 to 7 gallons). - Larger plants (climbing beans, dwarf shrubs) require a 16-inch diameter planter (9 to 10 gallons). - Large plants (tomatoes, broccoli, peppers) require a planter at least 18 inches in diameter (14 to 15 gallons). 2. Plant root system : - The diameter of the pot should be adapted to the plant's growth habit and root system, to give it enough room to develop. 3. Planter location and style: - Consideration must also be given to the location of the planter and the desired style of landscaping. By following these recommendations for size according to plant characteristics, it's possible to choose the most suitable planter to ensure good growth.
